for symphonic band
Commissioned and premiered by the UCSD University Wind Ensemble conducted by Bob Zelickman
When we learn history, we read about individuals. We learn who made specific decisions and how those single decisions affected the course of human events.
This kind of history is over.
We live in a time when the many, armed with as little as 140 characters, have brought down dictatorships. But it is only when the many focus their strength on a single point that they can break through.
There is strength in numbers, but the many express in myriad ways. The flock, swarm, and riot present a strength that must be transformed into a message.
Let us yearn to express together.
Many thanks to Bob Zelickman and the UCSD University Wind Ensemble for their commission and premiere.
